Michael Finer CPA, PFS, CPF CLU, RFC, ARM, MST, Ph.D (candidate) is Major League Investments’ President and Chief Financial Planner. He is responsible for all of the firm’s financial planning activities. Mr. Finer graduated from Babson College in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Economics. Simultaneously, as an ROTC scholarship recipient, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Mr. Finer’s professional experience includes accounting, tax, financial planning, investment planning, retirement planning, educational planning, insurance analysis and investment allocation analysis and advice with Arthur Andersen & Co. and Ernst & Young in Boston, Massachusetts. He has advised domestic and international entities on tax planning matters integrating such advice with financial planning strategies. He served as the Commander of Task Force Yankee, a joint military unit of 500 soldiers and airmen, who provided support and stability operations in the city of New Orleans during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Mr. Finer also served as a Garrison Commander with the Army in Iraq.
Mr. Finer also served as the Chief Financial Officer in a Family Office with domestic and international operations. In this capacity, Mr. Finer supervised the financial and non-financial staff, oversaw all domestic and international investment activities, supervised numerous construction projects for the family, oversaw yachts, synchronized jet services, integrated private and public company financial affairs with the families' activities, oversaw income, gift and estate tax planning and compliance, designed financial control systems, handled delicate concierge matters and made certain that all bills were paid and financial statements were prepared in a timely manner.
Mr. Finer has received a Masters Degree in Taxation from Bentley College and a Masters Degree in Strategy and National Security from the Naval War College. He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Naval War College, and the Army Command and General Staff College where he was recognized as a Top 10% Honor Graduate. Mr. Finer is a 4th Degree Black Belt in karate.
Mr. Finer has published several articles on such subjects as Strategy, Financial Planning, and Leadership and has made multiple wealth management and financial planning presentations to include a presentation to the national Financial Planning Association Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts in 2008.
Mr. Finer serves or has served on several for-profit and not-for-profit Boards. He was the Treasurer of the Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island, an organization that has funded over $30 million of charitable giving, and he assists the President of the Feinstein Foundation in the design and execution of the Foundation's multi-million dollar investment strategies. He was also the Treasurer of the Feinstein Family Fund. He previously served as the Assistant Treasurer of My Brother's Table, a food pantry in Lynn, Massachusetts. He also served on the Board of Directors of Congregation Shirat Hayam in Swampscott, Massachusetts where he worked on the statuatory merger of Temples Beth El and Israel to form Congregation Shirat Hayam.
Mr. Finer also served on the Board of Directors of the Association of the First Corps of Cadets in Boston, and the Board of Governors at Kernwood Country Club. Mr. Finer was a member of the audit committee of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity where he was a fraternity member from 1983-1987. Mr. Finer is a Brother of the Norumbega Fraternity Lodge of Free Masons, and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. |
